Friends of Don Bosco is seeking a dynamic and dedicated full time Project Leader to spearhead our educational, social, and youth faith tourism initiatives. Our organization is deeply committed to empowering young people through social care, non-formal education, training, and international development projects. We are now enhancing our efforts with the Checkin youth faith tourism project, aimed at providing transformative educational, cultural, and spiritual experiences.

About the Checkin Project

The Checkin project seeks to empower young people through non-formal education, cultural awareness, and the promotion of faith tourism in Malta and Gozo. This initiative offers pathways to self-exploration and learning, promoting the niche of youth faith tourism. The project also facilitates opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan youth to engage in faith tourism abroad, experiencing the Salesian Spirit in a global context.

Position Overview

The Project Leader will provide visionary leadership for Checkin, ensuring the successful execution of our educational and social projects. This role involves making strategic decisions, developing and implementing operational policies, and fostering a culture of motivation and excellence within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy:

  – Provide inspired leadership for Checkin and related initiatives.

  – Make crucial policy, planning, and strategic decisions.

  – Develop, implement, and review operational policies and procedures.

  – Work with the National Council to define organizational values and mission, and plan for short and long term goals.

Operational Management:

  – Oversee budgeting, reporting, strategic planning, business development, and auditing.

  – Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  – Identify and address organizational challenges and opportunities.

  – Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants and staff.

Programme Development and Implementation:

  – Design and implement programmes that support the educational and social development of young people.

  – Lead and coordinate various projects and activities linked to youth faith tourism.

  – Support the development of initiatives that align with the Salesian approach to education and care.

Collaboration and Communication:

  – Promote an organizational culture that encourages high performance and determination.

  – Foster healthy communication within the organization.

  – Build alliances and partnerships with other organizations.

  – Collaborate with stakeholders and apply for funding to ensure project sustainability.

Additional Duties:

  – Participate in project evaluation and follow-up activities.

  – The National Council may assign additional responsibilities as needed.


– Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within the educational, social, or tourism sectors.

– Strong strategic planning and policy development skills.

– Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

– Experience in budgeting, reporting, and business development.

– Ability to foster a positive organizational culture and motivate staff.

– Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance.

– Commitment to the values and mission of Friends of Don Bosco.
