Friends of Don Bosco (Malta) is seeking to employ a Youth & Community Worker on casual work basis, working minimum 5 hours, maximum 10 hours per week.

Friends of Don Bosco (Malta) is a registered voluntary organisation which promotes educational, social, cultural, and spiritual activities. The main area of our mission is to support vulnerable young people who require community support to be able to reach their full potential. We mainly focus on educational, social and community projects. Currently, we have four social projects: Alberto Marvelli Residence which houses young people who are homeless or lack the support of a family; an intergenerational community project in a new residence Carlo Gastini in Valletta, MentorPower for Employment whereby we help vulnerable young people to access the labour market and support them to hold a job through volunteers which are trained as mentors; and a project with Street Children in Burundi.


To work closely with the project’s coordinator on the implementation of our social projects; the Alberto Marvelli Residence, the Carlo Gastini Residence and the MentorPower Programme for Employment.

To organise and participate in activities within our communities which will include regular social gatherings (Christmas, Easter, Summer Barbeque, etc), sharing experiences through sessions, creative workshops, gardening activities, use of the common areas for the residents (common room and roof garden) and providing mentoring programme for the young people.

The key is to create space and opportunities where residents can come together, interact, learn from each other, and contribute to the betterment of their community while promoting a more inclusive and age-friendly society.

Role of the Youth & Community Worker

  • To be able to build and maintain a sense of community;
  • Provide mentoring services to young people involved in our project;
  • Promote understanding and respect;
  • Enhance Emotional well-being of our residents;
  • Support good and healthy communication with the organization;
  • Seeks to foster a good relationship with the local community in order to create a warm, homely, caring environment whilst caring for the individual needs of the young people;
  • Provide young people with a positive life experience as they are prepared to move in their life and achieve independence;
  • Ensures a good quality service;
  • Ensures a safe and healthy living and working environment.

Profile of the candidate

A team player that can work within a voluntary organisation culture. Must be flexible and able to stick to tight deadlines. A good communicator.


Applicants must have a third level education with qualifications related to this job description and has prior experience in working with young people.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in working with young people of fewer opportunities in the social and/or educational sector. 
  • An excellent command of the Maltese and English language (spoken and written).
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Good planning skills and ability to respect deadlines.
  • Team communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team.
