Friends of Don Bosco is seeking a caring and committed Community Worker to support the delivery of an intergenerational programme based within a residential setting. The programme brings together older adults and young people, promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and meaningful relationships within a supportive community environment.

Position Overview

The Community Worker plays a supportive, hands-on role within the intergenerational residential programme. Working under the guidance of the Intergenerational Program Coordinator, the Community Worker assists with daily activities, resident support, and community engagement.

The role focuses on building positive relationships with residents, supporting their day-to-day needs, and contributing to a respectful, caring, and inclusive residential environment.

Key Responsibilities

Programme and Resident Support:

  • Support the day-to-day running of intergenerational activities within the residential setting.
  • Assit elderly residents with accessing public services and other services available within their local area.
  • Encourage positive interaction and mutual respect between generations.
  • Provide practical and emotional support to residents as required.

Community and Residential Support:

  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive residential environment.
  • Support residents in accessing community activities and services, under the guidance of the Coordinator.
  • Assist with the practical needs of the residence related to programme activities.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with the Intergenerational Program Coordinator, Project Manager, and other team members.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, colleagues, and professionals involved in programme delivery.
  • Foster a respectful, caring, and supportive residential community.

Administration and Safeguarding

  • Support basic record-keeping and reporting as required.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies at all times.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in meetings, supervision, and training as required.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by management or the National Council.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience or strong interest in working with elderly people, young people, or community-based programmes.
  • A caring, empathetic, and respectful approach to working with people.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance from senior staff.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a practical attitude.
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Friends of Don Bosco.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in social care or community work are considered an asset.

Working Hours

This is a full-time position. Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet the needs of the residential programme and its residents.

Salary

€27,000 – €30,000 annually
