On 11th February, the first session of our BLUEFRONT workshops took place, bringing together young people from Malta aged 14–30 to learn, share, and take action on water sustainability and the blue economy. These workshops provide a space for youth to engage with real-world issues affecting our communities and our future.
The workshop began with an informative presentation covering general water knowledge, global water challenges, and the current situation in Malta. Participants gained valuable insights into key issues surrounding water management, supported by data and research findings at both local and international levels. The session also introduced the importance of research in understanding environmental challenges and shaping sustainable solutions.
Afterwards, the group took part in a fun and interactive Kahoot quiz on water sustainability, testing their knowledge and sparking friendly competition. They then engaged in a practical challenge, applying what they had learned in hands-on activities that encouraged teamwork and creative thinking.
One of the highlights of the day was a situational challenge, where participants worked in small groups to find solutions to water-related scenarios. This activity encouraged critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, showing how young people can make a tangible difference in addressing water sustainability challenges.
The workshop concluded with a group discussion and summary, allowing participants to reflect on their experiences, share insights, and consolidate their learning. The session successfully combined knowledge, action, and collaboration, setting a strong foundation for future BLUEFRONT workshops in Malta.
If you would like to be part of this journey, we invite you to join the upcoming workshops. This was just the first session, and the series will continue in the near future with engaging activities, including visits to different sites and hands-on experiences. These sessions aim to support learning, develop practical and research-related skills, and encourage collaboration on water sustainability efforts within your community.
